  1. Drop the chicken into the water and simmer for 10 minutes. Then remove the chicken, drain the water and allow it to cool.

  4. Add some of the barbecue sauce to the chicken and turn it over. As it cooks, cover the other side of the chicken breast with barbecue sauce. Wait 5 minutes and then turn again. After another 5 minutes, your chicken should be done. Check and if not done, keep cooking for two-to-three minutes per side.

Hot sauce, chili sauce, pepper sauce or any other spicy sauce, prepared of chili peppers and other ingredients like vinegar, oil, water and even alcohol, can be used as an alternative for paprika in any recipe. These sauces serve as an ideal substitute in a recipe where taste is a more dominant factor than color.

Use: 1 tsp. Hot Sauce for 1 tsp. Paprika
Tomato
One of the most readily available substitute for paprika is tomato. It would be a good substitute for color and presentation, however the flavor will be different. A dash of chili powder or any standard hot sauce will be a good supplement to get a hint of paprika's smoky-sweet flavor. One can also use tomato sauce or tomato juice as a substitute for water or liquid in the recipe.

Aleppo Peppers

Black Pepper

Bell Peppers

Chipotle Powder
Whole chipotle chilies are dried and then ground to make chipotle powder. It is a good alternative to smoked hot paprika, as it has a hot and smoky flavor. Chipotle powder is a good substitute for sweet paprika to give a spicy taste to the dishes instead of a sweet flavor.

Red Pepper Flakes
Red pepper flakes are made by crushing dried spicy red peppers. Red pepper flakes have a hot, spicy and sometimes smoky flavor, like paprika. Roasting a Chicken in Oven


Who doesn't love a chicken roast or roasted chicken? It is a perfect dish for parties, small get together or even for Sunday lunches. There are several scrumptious roast chicken recipes that can be prepared at home easily. Here is a simple recipe of making roasted chicken with simple herbs.

Best Way to Roast a Chicken

Before actually roasting a frozen chicken in oven, you need to thaw it in the refrigerator overnight. Method of Preparation
  • Initially you need to preheat the oven to 400 degree F
  • Remove the chicken giblets from the chicken cavity. Cut the lemon in half and place it inside the cavity of the chicken.
  • Now put a few leaves and stalks of thyme into the slit of the chicken.
  • In a bowl, add olive oil, remaining thyme leaves and stalks, and crushed cloves of garlic. Mix it in a blender until it is homogeneous.
  • Now place the chicken on roasting tray and spoon this flavored oil all over the chicken, inside out. You can pour the remaining directly on the top the chicken.
  • Sprinkle salt and freshly ground pepper over the chicken for seasoning.
  • Now the chicken should be covered with a foil loosely and roasted in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • After the prescribed time, reduce the temperature of the oven to 320-350 degree F, remove the foil and cook for another 30 minutes.
  • The color of the chicken will turn golden brown when is it cooked. In order to confirm whether it is completely cooked or not, you can pierce the chicken in the thickest part (thigh) with a skewer. If the juices run clear, the chicken is cooked!
  • Now remove the chicken from the oven, cover in a foil and let it to rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • You can heat the pan juices again over the gas / burner.
  • Take the chicken out of the foil and carve / cut it. Pour the pan juices on top of the chicken and your oven-roasted chicken is ready to serve!
This is the simplest and easiest way of roasting a chicken in oven at home. Now, if you want to slow roast a chicken, so as to make it more tender and soft, then you need to follow the same initial procedure of seasoning the chicken. Later, you need to follow the following steps to make a slow oven roasted chicken:
  • Preheat the oven initially to 400-450 degrees F and cook for 15-20 minutes. This will make the skin of the chicken crispy.
  • Now, lower the temperature to 250 degrees F and cook the chicken for an hour.
  • Lastly, increase the temperature again to 400-450 degrees F and cook for 15-20 minutes.

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh basil leaves, finely chopped

Directions

In a medium-sized saucepan, heat about 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil. Saute the diced onions in it for about 2 to 3 minutes, until they turn translucent and soft. Now, add the crushed tomatoes along with the juice and stir well. Add basil leaves, oregano, salt and pepper. Simmer over medium heat for half an hour or so, until the sauce thickens and reaches the right consistency. Serve with freshly boiled pasta or finger foods!

Marinara Sauce Recipe with Tomato Sauce

Ingredients
  • 2 cans Italian tomato puree
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley flakes
  • 4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Directions

Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan. Add onions and garlic to it. Saute the onions till they become soft and translucent. Now, add the tomato sauce and tomato puree and stir well. Add all the spices and the grated cheese. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 30 minutes.
