Crab cakes are usually served as appetizers and is often a part of breakfast buffets. These cakes are made by adding bread crumbs, milk, mayonnaise, eggs, seasonings, etc., along with crab meat which infuses the real flavor in the cakes. There are numerous ways of making a crab cake. They are either deep-fried and breaded or baked and grilled.
Dipping sauces complement crab cakes extremely well. Homemade tartar sauce has always been a huge hit with most people. But that's not it. Other than that, there are a number of other dips which are also very popular and are used widely in many places. If you aren't sure which one to make, or do not know how to make one, do not worry, it's very simple and does not take up a lot of time either. For that very reason, here, we shall have a look at how a few of them are supposed to be prepared along with the required ingredients, and then you can take easily your pick.
Mustard SauceIngredients
Shallot (ground), 1
Garlic clove (ground), 1
White wine, oz.
Dijon mustard, 2 tbsp.
Vegetable oil, 1 tbsp.
Butter or margarine, 1 tbsp.
Kosher salt, tsp.
Method
- Heat the oil over medium heat in a sauce pan.
- Add shallots and garlic to the oil and fry till they are tender.
- Now add wine to the shallots and allow it to thicken for about 25 to 30 seconds.
- Add mustard and salt to the saucepan and bring it to a boil for about half a minute.
- Take the pan off the heat, add butter and stir.
- Your sauce is now ready to be savored.
Spicy SauceIngredients
Avocado (pitted and peeled), 1 medium-sized
Shallot (ground), 1
Garlic clove (ground), 1
White wine, oz.
Milk, cup
Dijon mustard, 2 tbsp.
Kosher salt, tsp.
Method
- Mix lime juice, salt, avocado, mayonnaise, sugar and chili peppers in a food processor.
- Grind till the chili peppers and avocado are finely chopped.
- Add milk to the puree and mix well.
- If the sauce is not as spicy as you had desired, you can add some more chili pepper to it.
Red Pepper DipIngredients
Medium red peppers (roasted, peeled, seeded, and diced), 3
Chicken stock, 2 cups
Onions (chopped), cup
Olive oil, 6 tbsp.
Garlic (chopped), 2 tsp.
Salt, as per taste
Black pepper (freshly ground), as per taste
Method
- Heat two tablespoons of oil over medium heat in a sauce pan.
- Add onions to the oil and sprinkle salt and pepper.
- Let the onion cook for about a minute.
- Now add pepper and garlic to the onions and let it cook for another minute.
- Then add stock to the saucepan and bring the ingredients to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for 5 to 6 minutes.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and blend the ingredients with a hand mixer until smooth in consistency.
- If the sauce is very thick in consistency, add some more stock to the sauce to liquefy it.
- Add salt and pepper as per taste.
Rmoulade DipIngredients
Mayonnaise, cup
Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp.
Hot pepper, tsp.
Method
- To make this sauce, combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
- Whisk with a hand blender and serve with delicious crab cakes.
Apart from the ingredients used in these above recipes, you can also prepare dips using cayenne pepper, sweet red pepper, lobster stock, heavy cream, lemon cream, horseradish, etc. Ingredients like parsley can be used to garnish the sauce too.
