Pulled Pork Sandwiches


When people hear about pulled pork sandwiches, they shy away from them. Most people are of the opinion that making these sandwiches is a big task in itself. However, once you know the recipe, you will disagree and take to making them, just as I did. There are different ways in which one can make these sandwiches using different pork recipes. The pork can either be roasted, oven barbecued, or it can be pulled pork slow cooker. I am a big fan of slow cooker cooked pork, as the flavors are enhanced in the slow cooker. After the pork is cooked, it is shredded and combined with barbecue sauce, onions and different seasonings. It is then stuffed into split buns. I prefer to have it with coleslaw. Having said that, we will now turn towards easy recipes.

How to Make Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Some people are of the opinion that sandwiches made with pulled pork cannot be called sandwiches, as the sauce from the pulled pork makes the bun fall apart. However, if the sandwiches are wrapped in an aluminum foil, then the sandwich will not fall apart. The other alternative will be to eat the sandwich using a fork. We will first have a look at the pork slow cooker recipe.

Slow Cooker Recipe
According to me slow cooker pulled pork recipes makes the best pork to be used to make sandwiches. Now let's take a look at the crock pot recipe.

Ingredients
  • 3 to 4 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 tbsp hickory flavored liquid smoke
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce
  • tsp fresh ground pepper
  • tsp salt
  • 2 cups water
Preparation
  • This is my favorite crockpot pulled pork recipe.
  • Rub salt and pepper on the pat dried pork for this crockpot recipes.
  • Keep the pork aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Place the pork in a slow cooker and add liquid smoke, 1 cup barbecue sauce and water.
  • Let the pork cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours till the meat falls apart.
  • Remove pork from the sauce and boil the sauce till it is reduced by half.
  • Then add the remaining barbecue sauce to the sauce along with shredded pork and let the pork cook again for another half an hour.
  • Serve pork on open buns or as sandwiches.
Pot Recipe
If you do not have a slow cooker, then you can make the pulled pork recipe in a pot as well. There is an advantage of using the pot, cooking pork will not take longer.

Ingredients
  • 3 lbs of pork shoulder
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • cup light brown sugar
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 pickled jalapeo pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 2 teaspoons of Chipotle chile powder
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp mustard sauce
  • cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • cup ketchup
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt as per taste
  • Hamburger buns
Preparation
  • Blend Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, onion, garlic cloves, jalapeo pepper, chile powder together.
  • Then add tomato paste, mustard sauce, vinegar, paprika, ketchup and blend again.
  • Let the pork marinate in this sauce overnight.
  • In a pot bring sauce, bay leaf, pork along with 1 quart of water and bring it to a boil.
  • When the mixture comes to a boil, cover the pot and let it simmer on low heat till the meat falls apart.
  • Once the meat is cooked, remove pork from heat and let it cool down completely.
  • Remove pork pieces from the sauce and using a fork shred it into small pieces.
  • While you shred pork, place the sauce back on heat and let is reduce by three-fourth.
  • Then added the shredded pork pieces back to the sauce and add salt as per taste.
  • Fill the buns with pork and serve.
You can make use of different pulled pork rub recipes when you are making sandwiches. The dry rubs often enhance the taste of the pork. Now you can enjoy the pork sandwiches with your friends and family.
