Homemade BBQ Sauce


A BBQ is just incomplete without some delicious and spicy BBQ sauces. While there may be numerous barbeque sauces available in the market, most of them are made from the same basic ingredients and so they become monotonous in taste. Moreover, ready-made BBQ sauces are made of different artificial additives and preservatives which are not at all healthy to our body. Hence, preparing homemade BBQ sauces will not help you overcome various health concerns but by adding some of your favorite ingredients and spices, you can prepare your own exquisite dishes. Since variety is spice of life, here comes easy recipes using different flavors and seasonings.

BBQ Sauce Recipes

Memphis Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 red chili, seeded and chopped
  • 1 cups ketchup
  • 3 tbsp molasses
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp English mustard (mixed up, not powdered)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • Lemon juice
Preparation

In a saucepan, melt the butter and put onions and chillies, and saute them for about 3 - 4 minutes or until the onions turn translucent. Now add rest of the ingredients, simmer for about 10 - 12 minutes and your BBQ sauce is ready.

Smoky Flavored BBQ Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 bottle (12 oz) chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • cup water
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke
Preparation

Pour the chili sauce out of the bottle into a bowl and simply mix all the ingredients into the bowl. Use the BBQ sauce right away, but if you want to prepare it a night before the party, let it stand in the refrigerator overnight.

Spicy Apricot Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds apricots, pitted and halved
  • 3 large tomatoes, halved
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups cider vinegar
  • cup dry white wine
  • 1 onion, chopped finely
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp hot sauce
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
Preparation

In a large stock pot, put all the ingredient and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 1 - 2 hours. When the sauce has reduced, strain through a sieve and use instantly or store in an airtight container.

Chipotle Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • 16 oz tomato ketchup
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • cup water
  • 2 cans chipotle chilis, chopped
  • 4 oz brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • tsp celery salt
  • teaspoon black pepper
  • A splash of cooking oil for frying
Preparation

In a sauce pan, heat oil and put onions and minced garlic; fry for about 5 - 7 minutes or until the onions turn translucent. Add the remaining ingredients and allow the sauce to simmer. When the sauce thickens, remove it from heat and your BBQ sauce is ready.
